Hello, I’m Bea, a qualified BACP counsellor and founder of Freedom Psychotherapies, established in 2024. My professional background includes extensive experience working within domestic abuse and sexual assault support charities, where I developed a deep understanding of trauma, resilience, and the importance of compassionate, person-centred care.
As an autistic therapist, I bring a unique perspective to my work and am passionate about creating an inclusive and supportive space where every individual feels seen, understood, and respected. I believe that therapy should be a collaborative journey—one that honours each person’s individuality and provides the freedom to explore their experiences in a way that feels safe and empowering.
Freedom Psychotherapies has grown to offer counselling for children and young people aged 9 and over, as well as adults. I work creatively, often integrating expressive and sensory approaches that can help clients connect with their emotions and stories in non-verbal ways. I also hold a strong belief in the healing power of animals and the comfort they can bring to the therapeutic process.
My aim is to help clients rediscover their strength, build emotional resilience, and move toward healing and self-acceptance in their own time and way.

At Freedom Psychotherapies, we recognise the unique and powerful role that animals can play in emotional healing and personal growth. Our Animal and Equine Assisted Psychotherapy sessions offer clients the opportunity to connect with animals in a safe, therapeutic environment—supporting reflection, regulation, and relationship-building in
At Freedom Psychotherapies, we recognise the unique and powerful role that animals can play in emotional healing and personal growth. Our Animal and Equine Assisted Psychotherapy sessions offer clients the opportunity to connect with animals in a safe, therapeutic environment—supporting reflection, regulation, and relationship-building in ways that words alone sometimes cannot.
We are fortunate to work alongside Cody, a gentle 6-year-old cob, during our equine-assisted sessions held at a stables near Oldmeldrum, Aberdeenshire. Cody is very much an equal partner in the process—he chooses how he engages, whether that means quietly observing from a distance or coming closer to share in brushing, gentle interaction, or treats. His calm presence and clear boundaries provide valuable opportunities for clients to explore trust, communication, and emotional connection.
From our therapy room in New Deer, Aberdeenshire, clients may also meet Momo, our affectionate 5-year-old Ragdoll cat. Momo brings warmth (and often a sunny spot on the radiator) to the space, offering quiet companionship and comfort to those who find solace in the company of animals.
Our animal-assisted approaches are always guided by respect for both client and animal, creating a compassionate and inclusive space where authentic connections can support healing and growth.

At Freedom Psychotherapies, our work is rooted in a pluralistic approach, recognising that each person’s journey and needs are unique. This means we draw on a range of therapeutic models and techniques—working collaboratively with you to find what feels most helpful and meaningful.

At Freedom Psychotherapies, our work is rooted in a pluralistic approach, recognising that each person’s journey and needs are unique. This means we draw on a range of therapeutic models and techniques—working collaboratively with you to find what feels most helpful and meaningful.
Creativity is at the heart of our practice. Sessions may include art, crafts, and other creative methods, offering alternative ways to explore feelings and experiences that may be difficult to express in words. Whether through conversation, creative expression, or connection with nature and animals, therapy is always guided by your pace and preferences.
We offer therapy in several settings to suit different needs:

Pluralistic counselling is an approach that recognises there is no single “right” way to do therapy — every young person is different, and what helps one person might not help another. In pluralistic counselling, the therapist and young person work together to find the methods and activities that best suit the young person’s needs, personality, and way of communicating.
For children and young people, this approach can be especially powerful because it allows therapy to be flexible and creative. Sessions might include:
The focus is always on collaboration and choice — young clients are encouraged to share what feels helpful (and what doesn’t), so therapy can grow with them. This helps build confidence, autonomy, and a sense of being respected and understood.
Pluralistic counselling for children and young people aims to help them:

Pluralistic counselling is based on the understanding that there is no single approach that works for everyone. Instead, it values collaboration, flexibility, and individuality, allowing therapy to be shaped around each person’s unique preferences, strengths, and needs.
For neurodivergent adults—including autistic individuals, ADHDers, and those with other neurodivergent experiences—this approach can be especially supportive. Rather than expecting clients to “fit” a particular model of therapy, pluralistic counselling adapts to them.
In practice, this means:
At its heart, pluralistic counselling for neurodivergent adults is about autonomy and authenticity—creating a space where you can explore your experiences, understand yourself more deeply, and develop tools that work for you, not just what’s traditionally expected.

Relationships come in many forms — and so does the way we experience connection, love, and intimacy. At Freedom Psychotherapies, our pluralistic couples counselling approach recognises that there isn’t one “right” way to have or heal a relationship. Every couple (or partnership) is unique, and therapy is shaped collaboratively to reflect your shared values, identities, and ways of communicating.
We offer a welcoming, affirming space for LGBTQIA+, non-monogamous, kink and BDSM, and straight or monogamous couples to explore their relationships without fear of judgement. Our focus is on understanding and respecting the dynamics that make your relationship meaningful to you.
In pluralistic couples counselling, we work together to find approaches that best support your goals as a couple. Sessions may involve:
The pluralistic approach values collaboration, flexibility, and authenticity — ensuring that therapy adapts to you, rather than expecting you to fit into a traditional model of relationships.
Whether you’re seeking to deepen connection, repair ruptures, or explore new ways of relating, couples counselling at Freedom Psychotherapies offers an inclusive, compassionate space for growth, communication, and shared understanding.

At Freedom Psychotherapies, life coaching is offered as a supportive and forward-focused space to help you move toward the life you want to create. While counselling often explores and heals the past, life coaching focuses on the present and future — helping you to set goals, overcome barriers, and build confidence in your ability to grow and thrive.
I have been a qualified life coach since 2004, and over the years I’ve supported people from many walks of life to rediscover their strengths, reconnect with what matters most, and take meaningful steps toward lasting change. Coaching sessions are collaborative, encouraging, and tailored to your individual needs — helping you to work at your own pace and in a way that feels authentic to you.
Whether you’re looking to make changes in your career, relationships, or personal life, coaching can help you find clarity, direction, and a renewed sense of purpose.
At Freedom Psychotherapies, some clients choose life coaching, others counselling, and some a combination of both — creating a flexible, personalised approach that meets you where you are and supports you in moving forward.
As a guide, if your main focus is understanding emotions, working through past experiences, or processing trauma, counselling may be the right place to start. If your focus is on setting goals, making changes, or moving forward in practical ways, life coaching could be more suitable. Together, we can explore what feels most helpful for you and create a personalised approach that supports your journey.
